 AXA Postdoctoral Fellowship

The AXA Research Fund have announced their next call for Post-Doctoral fellowship projects. More information will be available on their website soon – for the time being, please see the attached Guideline notes.

This year, the topic of the call will be “Preventing Long-Term Exposure to Harmful Substances and Mitigating its Impacts”. This includes air pollution, toxic substances found in daily life (e.g., cosmetics or cleaning products) or test-taking drugs (e.g., Adderall). 

The AXA Research Fund is looking at supporting post-doctoral research in understanding the impact of harmful substances on human health, and in investigating the way they are – and could be – regulated, as well as the role of public health policy and the costs for the economy and the insurance business. 

Further details: 

  • No more than 5 years past the candidate’s completion of their PhD (maternity/paternity extensions: 6 months per child).
  • The main evaluation criteria will be the candidate’s academic excellence and the research program’s scientific quality.
  • The support of AXA Research Fund should be transformative for the researcher and the advancement of their field. 
  • The total budget of €125,000 to be spent over two years (NB: This will mostly cover just salary costs of the researcher).


University Internal selection

The University can submit only one application. Therefore, this call will be managed according to the University’s restricted calls procedure


To take part in the internal selection process, please submit the following documents to by 12 pm on Wednesday 12 May 2021:

  1. The attached internal selection form
  2. A short CV (max 3 pages)
  3. A support letter from the Head of the Department / Centre / Institute that will hold the grant, confirming their support for the project and agreement to host the grant


Funder deadlines:

  • Expression of Interest from the selected candidate: 25 May 2021, 3pm UK time
  • Research proposal submission (by invitation only): 24 June 2021, 3pm UK time
