The Royal Society has announced the 2021 Round 2 of the Wolfson Fellowship, to open for submissions on 29 September 2021. This scheme can be used to recruit senior researchers of any nationality, currently based overseas. There are two complementary routes within the scheme 1) A five-year Royal Society Wolfson Fellowship, which will focus entirely on recruitment, and offering a fellowship award of up to £300,000 to international research leaders wishing to relocate to the UK and 2) a Visiting Fellowship strand, which will allow a flexible sabbatical period at a UK university with an award of up to £125,000.

The scheme covers all areas of natural sciences, including but not limited to biological research, chemistry, engineering, mathematics and physics. Submissions from clinically qualified scientists may be considered if their research is within the Royal Society’s remit (please see https://royalsociety.org/grants-schemes-awards/grants/subject-groups). Further information on the call requirements can be found in the Royal Society Wolfson Fellowship scheme notes

University Internal selection:

Institutions submitting more than one application across both streams, should make a strong case against the organisation’s strategic priorities. It is also possible the Royal Society will require the institutions to rank their candidates. Therefore, this call will be managed according to the University’s restricted calls procedure.

To take part in the internal selection process please submit the attached internal selection form together with a support letter from the Head of the Department / Centre / Institute that will host the fellowship, confirming their support for the project and agreement to host the grant to researchstrategy@admin.cam.ac.uk by 29 September 2021.

Funder deadline: 24 November 2021.
